(KRON) -- Jurors convicted a man of domestic violence charges for burning a woman with a torch lighter inside a San Francisco hotel room, prosecutors announced Monday.

Michael Thomas Coleman, 41, was convicted following a jury trial.

On August 10, Coleman and the victim were staying in a hotel room together at Sunnyside Hotel. A hotel manager asked if they were going to stay or leave. When the victim started to pack up her belongings, Coleman kicked the victim in the mouth and used a torch-lighter to burn the victim's head, according to prosecutors.

"I commend the courage and strength of the survivor," said District Attorney Brooke Jenkins. "Domestic violence often happens behind closed doors, but no one should have to suffer in silence. Our office remains committed to protecting survivors and holding those who commit domestic violence accountable."
